Thanks thanks.
Hey Guys, so I’ve been working on a booklet for class and this is what I’ve come up with. I’d love to have some feedback!
The content is a paper I wrote for my anthropology class last semester on type and national identity. With this content we had to incorporate patterns from a shoe (best just to ignore why there are patterns and, sadly, we just had to accept it). As you continue to read the book the pages become more chaotic and filled with text and then becomes a little simpler again towards the end. It is also partially inspired by futurist style because that was also part of the assignment.
Thoughts?
Today I swung on a swing that overlooked Florence.
Swings are the best.
Hello again!
Well I’m starting to get used to the idea that I’m living here (although it is still kind’ve strange). I’ve survived my first week of classes and I’m quite excited about them especially serigraphy because I finally get to do some textile design!
In our graphic design class we went to a museum on Salvatore Ferragamo who is an amazingly talented shoe designer. He drew inspiration from history and materials, and began the use of questionable materials like cork and fish scales.
I also ate the best sandwich today and it is amazing how much a wonderful sandwich can make you so happy.
Around Florence you can basically get by without knowing any italian, it is really remarkable how many people speak english. Of course, I’m still trying to learn italian, and it is ridiculous how fast my italian teacher covers information (but i’ll eventually figure it all out).
A few of us went out one night across the bridge and found this weird place where kids (they seriously looked 12-16) but they are probably 16-18 were hanging out outside by the river drinking and talking. It was basically an outdoors bar/hangout. Of course, we went and made our own little circle of Americans, which was quite entertaining, our plan is to go back often so that when we fake wave to people, people may actually wave back.
Also, as promised, images 1 through 3 are the view from our kitchen window, it is absolutely unbelievable!
Also, mosquitos are the worst thing.
Munich is next week and I can wait to meet up with all the other abroad designers!
Well I’m finally here!
It is a bit odd so far because I feel strangely out of place. After a mess of Lufthansa losing my luggage, then breaking my bag, and now (hopefully on monday) sending in a report for a new bag, since mine is unrepairable, all my bad luck will be out of the way! (Apart from the fact that my debit card keeps being declined, which will also hopefully be fixed soon!)
Today is our first day off for the past three days of orientation, where we explored florence and learned a little bit of history. I also bought lots of salami and prosciutto at a butcher and 59 cent pasta with tiners. NOMS.
Tina and I live in a wonderful apartment on the top floor of a music school with 3 other saci students. We have a terrace where we can see the Duomo and Santa Croce, as well as other rooftops. It’s beautiful (picture soon to come).
Classes start tomorrow which I’m quite excited for (since, as you know, I’m a workaholic)!
I will be taking:
Adv. Graphic Design, Serigraphy, Illustration, Beg Italian, and Ceramics (which I may switch to 3-d Animation)
And it will be wonderful!
